scmn | Thinking about stalk baling cost today when I went thru town and diesel price dropped 42cents this week. I recall a few years back when diesel went up and all poster commented about raising his custom stalk baling price 50 cents/ bale due to fuel going up.
Had a near full transfer tank, so stopped in town and topped off using two clicks. Then topped off tractor tonight after baling and went thru town and topped off transfer tank again to see how many gallons got put in the tractor. Made 183 5x6 bales on 20.7 or 0.113gal/bale. Back to the old poster, a 50 cent increase in fuel at 0.113gal/bale would require diesel to go up 4.42/gallon.
I guess since diesel dropped .42/gallon we should lower baling charge 0.045, but will stay the same since we didnt charge extra after filling barrels at the low this spring and watching fuel going up .45 this summer.
How many gallons per bale is your tractor using while rolling up stalks?
