Northwest Iowa | Interesting comments I'm reading. Years ago, Dad and I were going to try to run 2 older combines to get it all done. Flawed plan but had to try!. Dad had a dependable 6600 JD gas. Early one, too but pretty much stayed in the field. But-- you stopped at 5:00 every day to fill the gas tank. Maybe did 50 acres and needed 50 gallons. I bought an MF 510 Diesel. Hard to keep in the field, but never needed fuel. That Perkins kinda ran like crap-sounded like it was working hard all day- but it just didn't take any fuel. Maybe a 1/4 gallon an acre. Either way, I combined 65 acres of corn and didn't have the combine tank empty yet, but Dad had done about the same acres and used a 300 gallon barrel of gas. But, it was very hard to keep the Massey at work | |
