Eastern NE KS | Red Angus Association has offered a Stayability EPD for many years. American Angus is playing catch up with their Functional Longevity EPD. Each assoc offer the following explainer for their respective epd. The measuring sticks are different but to my reading they both indicate a higher value when comparing two animals is favorable, the progeny last longer in the herd.
American Simmental Association has a Stayability epd but I failed to find the ASA's explainer.
RAA-Red Angus Assoc.
Stayability [EPD] (Stay) predicts differences in the ability of an animals’ retained daughters to remain productive in the herd – calve every year – through 6 years of age. (Percent/High Value)
AAA-American Angus Assoc.
Functional Longevity EPD (FL), expressed in number of calves, is a predictor of the number of calves a sire's daughters are predicted to produce by 6 years of age compared to that of other sires' daughters. A higher EPD is the more favorable direction indicating more calves produced on average.
