Have an issue with voltage drop after replacing 135 amp alternator with a new one. It carries 13.5 volts with no load, barely 12 volts with the header and separator clutches engaged, in the red with the lights turned on. What should I be looking for? Would I have a grounding issue somewhere?
71347910 relay in the side console. If you know how to operate a voltmeter, check the voltage on both sides of it, should be minimal voltage drop.
After that, is to start checking at every connection point all along the wiring harness...The LAST of the R2 series machines is pushing 25 years old now, wiring ages and gets higher resistance, and causes voltage drop. I have started adding more wire to the power side to feed the cab to help combat this.
People adding LED lights and monitors, and auto steer all adds load to the cab wiring that no one thinks about...LED's take less power...not in all cases they don't!!! Then you look at some of the wiring jobs I see to add those accessories and it makes you wonder how the combines don't burn down as soon as they turn everything on!
