NWMO | 6” is standard
Going deeper and or shallower isn’t too big of a deal as long as you make sure to let the lab know the precise depth of sample
Typically, most labs are going off of a 6” sample. If you pull 4” cores and they think you pulled 6” cores you’re probably going to have a test that comes back as high fertility when that may not necessarily be the case.
Therefore, pull a full 6” core, and be as accurate as possible so as not to go 7-8” deep or too shallow, like 3-4” deep.
Also, remember that a soil sample isn’t a perfect representation of every square inch of the allotted area, it’s a sample. The more samples/cores you pull, the more accurate the results. | |
