Why does it not get approval? Or why do they not collect the NG in the first place? Sounds more like economics as it would take a ton of flared oil wells to pool enough NG to run an AA plant. And highly likely if it was economical to use in a AA plant, they would have already been collecting the NG to put into the pipeline system.
Because it costs about $5 billion or so, 15 or so years ago, when Cenex was going to build a fertilizer plant about 300 miles away from the Williston Basin oil fields. They decided to buy a share in Koch or someone else instead.
ND State law requires 90% of the gas to be captured and not flared. Gas is virtually worthless here because there is so much of it, and no place to go with it, that is why Basin Electric cooperative is building natural gas power plants. |
