East Central, Nebraska | you can easily spend 50-60 thousand on a pivot these days, that waters a quarter section. After that expense you will get along for many many years without any troubles. Other than that there is just general maintanence and fuel costs. Of course though you cant forget about the expense of the well, which cost depends on depth. Around my area you can spend 30-40 thousand on a well, we have wells that were put in during the 60s that we still haven't had a problem with. On a normal year you probably see 75+ bushel diffrences in yield from dryland (corn). I myself buy old pivots and fight them all year because I can't afford the new ones. It sure beats gravity irrigation though. | |
