No I didn’t not miss his point. Food security or food in the grocery store has zero to do with farm payments. As an industry we have been conditioned to take unnecessary risk and then plead poverty when times get tough.
As to why N prices are tied closer to corn price than production price is because capitalism. Thats the newish corporate pricing model. Maximizing profits is the goal and it has been found that pricing products for what a market can bear is how to be the most profitable.
I disagree that food security or food in the grocery store has zero to do with government involvement in commodity production which includes USDA's involvement which includes payments and subsidies. You may not know or be able to fathom the bigger picture policies at your government level, but they exist none the less. |
