payments were limited to owned acres. You only get paid on acres where your name is on the deed. That would put a damper on rent and investors bidding up farm ground. Personally, it would hurt myself a little, I only own a third of my acres and my owned acres are in hay.
Seems like a good idea only because it is less. Incentivizing growing more of what there is less demand for just doesn't register in my head. It's touted as a temporary situation with China but I have my doubts. How about add some incentive programs to convert crop acres back to grass? Undo what we were incentivized to do with $13 and $6. Not that the government should, but IF they are going to hand out money, at least don't use that money to exacerbate the problem. More beef production couldn't be a bad thing for a country could it? It's the people's money they are handing out and at least people would get more affordable beef and a reliable available excellent food source out of the deal. Or just keep this little dog and pony show going till she blows! |
