Pittsburg, Kansas | About 5 years ago a friend of the family, middle aged woman with downs syndrome, ask for my help. We were in the fast food restaurant where she worked. Have known her for years. She came to our table and ask how we had lost all the weight. I had lost about 100 pounds and my wife about 40-50. Turns out she had just came from a doctors appointment and was diagnosed with pre-diabetes. The doctor had told her to lose weight and she was a good 50-100 pounds overweight.
I told her we had been on a low carb ketogenic diet and we lost weight by cutting out most of the carbohydrates like bread, potatoes, etc. She ask me if I would make up a food list for her so she would know what to eat. So I did, printed it out for her and gave it to her the next day.
My priority with that list was to keep it simple and only list the foods I thought she might have at her disposal or could get easily. It was never meant to be an all inclusive list. Just a very simple one she could follow. I just happen to have it on my computer so I have listed it a few times here on AgTalk. It was based on the experience and what we thought we knew at the time.
