SW Saskatchewan | I don't know.
We have had a local example- Frigstad manufacturing.
Made good farm machinery out of the farm shop-expanded a few times and did well. Then in the BOOM times of the 80's grabbed every govt incentive possible and moved into the big leagues.
Sask and Canada had to make good offers- Hill County, Havre and Montana were bidding hard to get them away. And both lost big!
And everything went flat- Flexicoil bought the plant out of Bankruptcy and proceeded to knock down a million $ building and sell it for scrap.
Now Honey Bee is manufacturing there (and has for near 20 years), started out with Ole Frigstad's farm shop, same as Ole did.
For a long time resisted the "buy yourself big" philosophy but if they were going to maintain their relationship with CNH, they had to expand.
Now, all that cement pad that was left after Flexicoil smashed the Frigstad plant down is once again covered with manufacturing plant.
Hope all goes well, but "slow and steady" doesn't cut it in the big leagues it seems. | |
