![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=10883&type=profile&rnd=406) WNW Illinois, Henry Co | the "Clunk" is the reverse idler when someone put the tractor into Park and let the clutch out while the linkage was loose enough to let the tractor stay in gear so it chipped a tooth off of the reverse idler.
now the fun part, it is the very last piece you can tak out of the rear end, rear axles, all gears in range transmission, hence a split, cab removal. lots of work to get to that blasted gear. the good thing is it will run quite a while with the clunk, but I would be VERY careful about a heavy load in reverse when those teeth mesh, they could try to climb each other under heavy load. and wow, what damage then.
sound is usally worse than reality, till it breaks,
tighten, or replace linkages, and ALWAYS let the clutch out with foot on brakes before engaging park to prevent this happening.
good luck.
