You just didn't have the right guy working on your 855.
They are all roughly the same cubic inch, so it is just a matter of how much heat and how many rpms.
My experience is the Cummins was more fuel efficient and cheaper to work on.
They also stood the high rpms better.
Downside of the time was automotive type governor instead of a tractor style like the Cat.
Educate me on N14 Cummins engines.
