| Yea PRF AFR policy’s look good on paper. I figure I’m sitting on 0 right now though. Been paid some and had to pay a nasty premium last year when the grass was all burnt up in August and I was feeding hay already.
This year haven’t fed any hay and have already got premium back. Go figure. If they had an excess heat factor it would be awesome, here in Texas rain doesn’t guarantee a crop when it’s too hot.
Hay crops are just as bad in the toilet as grain and cotton. I’m sitting on a lot of hay right now that has very little value to sell, but not complaining because it’s really easy to sleep at night with enough hay to feed through an 11-12 style drought. Missing that ecap money on those acres is a big problem when the hay is only worth the baling on the street and landlord is mad they aren’t making money and missing payment too. Kinda limits what a guy can do with rented stuff.
I think to see a rebuild on cattle you’ll have to see some sort of price floor on calves. Everyone remembers 14-15 too well still and getting their head chopped off. It will take a program to guarantee good salvage price if they come up open and a good price for the first calf Atleast maybe some death loss insurance too if they want it to happen fast. | |
