| Visited with a Superior Auction rep yesterday about cowherd expansion as far as more heifers being retained. He said he's not seeing it and he sees a lot of cow herds and visits with other reps from around the country. As talked about in another thread, there are a number of factors that have to come together to make cattle (or farming) viable. land, labor, markets, support infrastructure. Those things have steadily been harder and harder (and more expensive) to access, and in many areas that is unlikely to change as far as the cattle industry goes. The thought has always been, if prices get high enough there will always be more cattle. But if you kick even the most loyal dog long enough, they will quit you. | |
