Phil A. - 9/28/2025 04:11 T-Boss, You make a good point with your joke. That bull is bored his work is done. Get him to the bull pen or whatever you do next with him as he is going to keep causing trouble. We use the same bull on a couple different groups of cows. Cows who calve at different times of the year. Some bulls get to know that the trailer means new friends. When their work is done, they load very easily. been able to back along a fence line many times and load a bull who was bored. Often after 60 days you can watch for a bull who is grazing by himself or not in the middle of everything stirring it up all the time is often another sign he is done and bored. Phil A. My Hereford bull in background of the picture above was put in with his group of cows and yearling heifers on July 14. I am sure most were bred in their first cycle after that and all by 2 cycles, about September 1. He is a very aggressive breeder, I call him a "chaser", but otherwise very docile. He has never damaged a fence or gate or anything else. He does bellow and walk along the fence when the neighbor's renter's cows are on the other side but that's it, even when the fence is barb but not hot. I leave him in with this group usually until a warm spell in early January. He seems very content being with the group including his May calves who are mostly still nursing their dams into January or later. This Hereford bull does not get into trouble, does not go through fences and is as docile as ever until I move him and a yearling bull and/or steers to a separate bull pasture. Going through fences and gates is not necessary nor normal for a bull even after his breeding work is done for the year. |
