Subject: Custom baling gone wrong

Hey guys. I generally chop my forage for Silage. I don’t really do much dry hay or have hay equipment. The hay I do use I normally buy from good neighbors. This year has been crazy so I opted to have someone custom bail some of my millet that I usually chop for haylage. We swathed it but I didn’t get to see him bale it. I’ll say this kid definitely makes a nice bale but my God they are heavy. They averaged 2100lbs. 5x6 rounds. Iv never seen rounds that heavy. I broke one open and was kind of surprised to find all the hay was largely brown and pretty musty smelling. I put one through the hay processor and it was full of dirt. It kind of reminds me of five year-old straw that’s been sitting in the back of a barn. I’m kind of curious what would’ve happened here? Did he bale it too wet? Sun bleached? I haven’t gotten the feed sample back but the bales don’t feel hot. Usually makes pretty nice haylage.
