Huntley Montana

cr39 - 9/27/2025 17:49 I would say just pay him well and the rental house not be a dump. I have been around the hired hand/ free rental house deal my dad has done forever. Usually the more you give the hired hand the lazier they get. Just pay them well.

I can attest to that.

I'm not sure if I will have a American worker next year.   2 men I had for 10-20 years this year were having a contest of who could do the least work.  This started when I offered them 5% each on a new farm 3 years ago.  I was hoping they would do extra work on the farm, but got less, with more complaints because "they had other things they wanted to do. "
Have 2 South Africans this year, planning on 4 next year.   Americans complain when they work/show up 100 hours a pay period, South Africans don't like 100 hour pay periods, but like 130-200 hour pay periods .  Problem is I have to put in more hours as they still are learning.
