Subject: Aliens keep dropping black cattle in my pasture!

Driftless SW Wisconsin

Two weeks ago one of my grandsons and I were mowing across the road. He looks over at my hillside pasture and says "Grandpa, there are some black cows in the field with ours". Ours are all purebred Herefords. Seven of one fenceline neighbor's mixed breed feeders pushed an old gate down and got in with my herd. Took me hiring some help and half a day to get them back where they came from.

This morning I hear a lot of bellowing coming from my pasture across the coulee. Right after lunch I take the Ranger out to this pasture to check out what's causing the fuss. Well, I find another fenceline neighbor's Angus bull in with my herd and my Hereford bull following him around like a shadow, I guess to make sure he didn't get fresh with any of his Hereford cows. Fortunately my cows are all bred and May heifer calves not in heat yet. (To be sure they'll get a lute shot at weaning).

This Angus bull had put his head between a couple of barb wires and lifted one Tee post almost out of the ground, knocking wire clips off and evidently walking through. I know how he did it because I managed to get him into my sorting corral which is mostly pipe but has one short section of 5 wire barb. My young high school helper and I got him in, closed the gate and went back to fixing the fence where he came through from my neighbor's pasture where he was supposed to be breeding the renter's cows. We called the renter who said he'd be over in a few hours with a trailer.

Not long after my helper and I got back to fixing the fence I look behind us and see the same black bull that we'd just put in the corral standing there with my herd that was watching us fix the fence! I thought it must be aliens dropping Angus cattle on my place!  Going back to the sorting corral we found he'd done the same thing there - put his head between two lower barb wires and lifted, popping the clips off and walking through.

Long story short, I spent nearly 6 hours today messing with this bull and repairing fences he had wrecked. Renter came over, we got the Angus into my corral, loaded him on the renters trailer. The renter put him back "on the other side of the pasture, with two hot wires between this bull and [my] fence".

My bull who is a good bit more stout than this Angus shadowed him around but I didn't see them fight. Maybe they had worked things out before I got there.

I am curious as to why I keep having neighbors' cattle in my pasture when it appears they have enough grass on their side. My hired helper and I got none of the work done that I had  planned for today.

Aliens, please stop putting your cattle in my pastures!

ETA Here's the only picture I have of the Angus bull with my dark red Hereford bull in the background following him around as he did all afternoon.
