You probably saw tanks make a mess. Dragline with a wide coulter bar is the best way to do spring manure. If the field is fit, it doesn't make any more compaction than a field cultivator or anhydrous bar.
A toolbar with chisel plow shanks is undesirable in the spring also (IMO, they're always undesirable). Because its a chisel plow which shouldn't be used in the spring because it brings up clods and makes the field to fluffy.
