And probably before that with the first farm program.
On a somewhat side note, I think it was Japan that first started investing heavily in Brazilian agriculture. I don't remember the year or the precise reason but I think US limited exports because it was believed US could run out. Japan saw us as a unreliable supplier and turned to Brazil to diversify supply. | |
