Thanks to Baby Robin's reply in the original post.

Called Midway Ford in Kansas City. Great place answered the phone right away transferred me to a lady who accessed the old parts system. Came up with a part number for the rubber flap I am looking for.

D1HZ16A586B

This led me to call Ruxer Ford. Through me for a loop as the previous post said Roxer Ford. They ran the part number through all their search sources and none turned up anywhere. They also mentioned that Ford often used components from different vehicles. Like the climate slider controls was from a Ford LTD.

So I now have the part number but still a dead end to finding one. Wondering if anyone has what I am talking about on a truck and would be willing to take it off and make a paper tracing of it. Laying it flat and tracing would give me a template to cut my own to match the original. Pictures are in the original linked thread up top. It's the rubber flap that bolts to the fender extension that bolts to the cab on the passenger side. It keeps material from being thrown onto the fuel tank/step.

I've seen a few at salvage places but they are with the fiberglass fender extension.

AI web search came up with the code breakdown as follows:

A search for Ford truck part number D1HZ16A586B yields very few results, suggesting it is a rare and obsolete part

. To determine the specific truck model, you can decode the part number itself.

Decoding the part number
Ford part numbers follow a specific format that indicates the part's original model year, vehicle line, and specific assembly.
  • D1: The first character, 'D', indicates the decade of the 1970s. The second character, '1', means the part was designed in 1971.
  • H: This designates the vehicle model. 'H' points to a heavy-duty truck, most likely an F-600 through F-900 series.
  • Z: This usually indicates that the part was also used in parts or service kits, meaning it was a replacement part.
  • 16A586B: This is the specific part code. The "16" in the first two digits indicates that the part is for the cowl or front fenders. Given the other numbers, the part is likely a specific emblem, ornament, or a bracket for a front-end component on a 1971 heavy-duty Ford truck.
