Subject: RE: Anybody in the south still plant Hutchison beans?

Jackson County, AL

Some neighbors grew some a few years back and I think newer ones beat them.  I grew up with Hutchinson, Essex, 415s, and 485s as the main varieties.  Heard of some others like Ring-a-round and Stone-something.  Essex never got tall, pods right on the ground, and usually small seed but they would yield.  Remember 485s were a red podded bean while the others were a tan.  Still seems like red podded beans always get beat by a tan side by side.
