SE SD | I agree with this! I have cut back population on my farm for both corn and soybeans and have not taken a yield hit. Location and variety will vary, but instead of planting 30k and 140k, I'm down to 28k and 120k. Depending on where you farm, if the climate is more prone to drought, then cut back. No reason to plant 36k and 160k unless it's for livestock. When you're chances of burning up are 50/50, 60/40, 70/30....take a look at your 10 year production history and figure out how many years you're above APH. If you only hit 50/50 or less, trim back a little during lean times. Bull up when times are good. | |
