 Central NY | That’s interesting, we follow our wheat with cover crops ranging from just oats, to a mix of oats, radish and clover. Normally we no till corn into those cover crops the following spring and 8/10 years those acres are our best corn by 10-20 bushel. I always give some of that yield increase to the rotation and getting another different crop year between the corn and beans. Part of my profitability calculation for wheat growing is the corn yield benefit the following year.
The corn doesn’t always look the best from v1-v3, and gets slug damage. By v6 it looks really good though | |
