Do you want to make money on the wheat or raise the most bushels? Serious question.
Most of these responses are to maximize yield not profit.
Know your farm fertility. If you have adequate P (35 plus Melich 3) all you really need is around 30# N for a starter.
We have used 3 different types of starter on the wheat we have planted thus far this fall depending on soil fertility.
Our standard is a ton of chicken litter. Some fields 200# 25-30-39-15. Some fields 10 gallons of 28%. It all depends on what you already have in the soil and what you plan on doing post harvest.
Our yield goal is 100 plus. We usually average that and are profitable on wheat acres.
You are starting off poorly with a $75/acre starter bill unless you really need it.
