A single tassel produces waaay more pollen than is necessary for the single ear it produces.
In seed production fields 1 male row generally pollinates 4 female rows. Not an apples to apples comparison, but illustrates how much extra pollen a single tassel produces.
Pioneer seed production fields here are 1 male for 2 rows so in 2 row blocks versus 4 row blocks like you mentioned. Did they do that cause they know of pollination trouble or why? I’m not sure just odd when say those seed fields. |
