We have a Dodge Durango that calls for 0W20 synthetic, all we ever put in it, and it has 267,000 miles and still doesn't lose or burn more than 1/4 of a quart between changes. To be fair, I change oil about 2X as often as the book says. I'm with the above poster, some of the recommendations seem just way too far apart.
0 - 20 oil. in new engines
