Great post. The results are amazing. There is part of this that makes me scratch my head though... and it is nothing negative about what is being presented. But how on earth did we get to the point of absolute reliance on a single pass of fungicide to determine whether or not we make a living or not. 15 years ago fungicide was hardly heard of, seems like today it is mandatory. Any thoughts as to what has been diddled with to have such blight in our crops now?
We've been using fungicide for close to 20 years, saw a huge response in 2009 on one hybrid.
But to your question...much more residue left on the surface than there was back in the day. Obviously that doesn't effect SR, but certainly does other diseases. Also, these plants are trying to fill larger ears, so when senescence inevitably starts happening, resistance to disease is first to go away.
