Subject: RE: bio-control of pest insects in alfalfa

Great Plains
There are various effective bio insecticides available depending on the target insects. These include various BT strains. BT Kurstaki for caterpillar pests. BT galleriae for scarab, weevil & tenebrionis beetles. Azadirachtin insect growth regulator (a neem seed extract).Purified Neem oil contains only traces of this and would be classified as a botanical oil. Some other plant extracts have insecticidal properties like thyme, gerenol &etc.
Entrust is effective against a number of insect pests.
There are also very effective& very specific insecticidal virus products on the market. The virus products can be very cost effective & it puzzles me why these are not used by nearly everyone.
Beneficial nematodes can also be very effective against various grubs.
I retired earlier this year but am available for fee based consulting.Send me an email.
