Try and be in the ground by May 10. If the ground is warm enough we will start late April. We can go to June 15 but start to loose yield after May 20. .003 is early for our area. We are usually closer to .009. We were doing these for seed and have always yielded well so we keep going as they give usually give us an option for fall rye. For comparison, corn is usually 74-79 day varieties. Usually budget 160 bu/ac for corn. Have been as low as 100 and as high as 230 dry weight. We do have significantly more day light hours in summer than further south. It is noticeable even between here and 150 miles south.


Yep, The reason sugar content in the beets is always higher the farther north you go up the red river valley, longer days more hours of sunlight.
