Cleveland, MS. Own small farm near Booneville, MS | In my humble opinion the WNBA made a serious mistake. In every game I watched CC play, including last year's games, the refs were doing a terrible job. They were letting her get pounded with no calls and wrong calls. To me, it was almost like the game was rigged to cause her to fail, or at least take her out. I don't know what the league, and many people in the league, had/have against her, but from my vantage point it appeared that they were trying to take her out. The Fever have at least four integral players with season ending injuries. All of those, with the possible exception of Sophie Cunningham, could have been prevented with competent officiating. Clark was making big bucks for the league and the league allowed her to be taken out. According to some reports (I have no way of verifying) at least three refs were fined for attempting to "throw" a game against the Fever, but only after several influential people called them on it. Makes no sense to me. But, the Fever have continued to win with a makeshift lineup. They just won a three game series against a healthy Atlanta team (# 3 in the standings) by winning game 3 in Atlanta. No easy feat. I don't think they have a snowball's chance in July of winning the championship, but nobody expected them to go this far. All the credit to coach White, Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston, Natasha Howard, Lexie Hull, Odyssey Sims (a hardship contract player), and the other players signed to one week hardship contracts. If they never win another game they have pulled off the impossible this season. |
