The report I heard was over 1000 affiliates were pulling the show and fill the slot with something else. Sounds like that was the reason rather than censorship.
Locally they replaced Kimmel with reruns of Family Fued.
I really doubt they lost many viewers in that time slot. On the worst episode of Family Fued Steve Harvey is funnier than Kimmel ever has been.
