Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | Story I heard was wooden bearings had been used for years starting with threshing machines and continued into the 9500 vintage machines. Deere thought that since the walkers were being run faster that they should go with "real" bearings so they switched to the aluminum type. Seems the wooden versions weren't so bad after all.
A friend had a 9500 with the aluminum bearings and because he was short he had trouble reaching them until he purchased a lock N load coupler for his grease gun and a hose. He could then lock the coupler on the zerk and use one hand to hold the grease gun and the other to pump it.
Wooden blocks impregnated with oil are still a good choice for reasonably slow applications. |
