No one stopped him from saying anything he wanted. Free speech does not include the requirement that someone else broadcast it for you. Kimmel is free to still say anything he wants without fear of being arrested (short of things like threats). In fact, if he wants, he can produce his own TV show if he wants, sell advertising, buy air time, and keep broadcasting if he wants. If there is a market for that sort of thing, he'll be fine. If there isn't enough market for that sort of thing to stand on its own, why would the networks continue to lose money on it?
Also, did you look up what he said? He said that the Kirk shooter was a MAGA Trump supporter, and he was not.
Remember when ABC had a talking head make false statements about Trump? Cost them $15 Million plus lawyer fees. If I had to guess, I would say that had more to do with the decision than quelling free speech. |
