20 miles west of Indianapolis Indiana | I have a neighbor with a 2577 I rent from him to shell corn and cut beans. Has a 30’ 1020 head and a 6 row 2206 head. I think the separator hours are around 2500 ish.
It’s not a bad machine by any means.
He’s ready to sell it after this fall or next and will continue to run a combine for me but not as much as he has been (probably still 50*% of the time).
I farm 1500 acres 1/2 corn 1/2 beans. For the last couple years I had thought that for the value a class 7 would make more since and be able to chew through beans faster. Corn I’m promoted to trucking so corn wise it’s not a huge upgrade of size machine yet. There’s a good chance I pick up 500-900 acres in roughly 5 years with a neighbor retiring. The average size may be skewed as I may let go of some outlying farms I have now if/when that happens
I’d been wanting a 7088 or 7120 sized machine with a 35-40’ draper and 8 row corn head. But with economics where they are right now the 2577 is more appealing and then look for a 30’ Draper for it.
Anyone have any thoughts on this that aren’t so much driven by the creature comforts of a little newer machine? I’m less worried about that and more worried about what makes since. And I’d probably be in a position a year or two after the new ground becomes available to upgrade if I bought the 2577, and the retiring farmer would probably work out a similar deal and keep his machine to help cut beans for a year or two if I didn’t get a big one now, if that makes since.
2577 has 2350 rotor hours and about 3400 engine.
