No offense BUT 2025 southern rust pile drove that old Agronomic practice in the ground without lube. If you weren’t ahead of the infection, you were late.

Agronomy Strong along with everyone else in Southern Iowa have been saying this for 45 days now….

Next year can go back to doing same-old.

You can be glad you were in a drought to keep the air humidity dry and cut 1/3 of your disease triangle off.

Have been applying fungicide for 20 years except 2012 and 2019. The only times I've seen substantial payback were times when it was applied late

ON this one I agree with Baby Ruth! We have fields sprayed early(before VT) that eliminated hot spots of Southern Rust and did not need a second application. We had other fields with same farmer that were sprayed later because rain delayed getting aerial applications on and had to have second application. Data will be coming soon as these fields are harvested. I don't claim to know all the answers because southern rust is new to us in Iowa but we are learning fast. I am promoting the following if we see it again:
1. Use a scouting program to find disease like southern rust as early as possible(we will be using SkyScout again next year) and spray these hot spots right away.
2. Diversify genetics to avoid having a disease like Southern Rust or Tar Spot hammering similar genetics.
3. Make sure fertility is excellent to provide for a healthy plant(fights disease better)
