Subject: RE: Alzheimer's new research

Pittsburg, Kansas

I hope it does!

I do not have family history (on the genetic side) of any of the above but did have an uncle (by marriage) that got Alzheimer's at a relatively young age. About retirement age. I was aware of what my aunt went through trying to take care of him and trying to find him when he wondered away. She finally had to give up as she also aged and put him in a home.

There is no magic bullet and I do not claim there is. However having said that, I think our metabolic health probably does have a lot to do with todays modern diseases that seem to have no cure. And me being diabetic since around thirty years of age (probably before that but just didn't know it yet) I am a prime suspect for having the metabolic conditions that may lead to dementia and even cancer (cancer loves sugar after all).

Dying I am not afraid of (I do ride motorcycles regularly - have five of them out in the motorcycle shed - and scuba dive doing over 150 dives a year). I am a Christian after all. But dying a horrible death with something like a brain tumor or dementia I would just as soon avoid. Me being diabetic for over 40 years definitely makes me in the higher risk group for those maladies. In my opinion even more so than genetics (but the medical industry would probably argue with that).

So what I can do to try to avoid the terrible deaths and hopefully have a "die in my sleep" type death I think is a worthwhile goal to pursue. Plus I am retired. Gotta have something to occupy my time. Might as well be health consciousness. I have no interest in professional sports or other type time passerby's.
