| Johnsongrass is not supposed to ever have brace roots. In contrast, brace roots are common on shattercane.
Other key differences between shattercane and johnsongrass include:
Shattercane has larger rounder seeds
Shattercane has a droopier seed head
Shattercane has wider leaf blades
Shattercane does NOT have rhizomes.
