It’s worth a try but it really comes down to harvest date and location. If your in the northern RRV the chances it’s warm enough to sprout post October 15 and get any kinda of size is low. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t get a good stand because we know how ugly it can look come March. Worth a try but might not see fall growth every year.

We did 200 acres last mid October of just wheat and chiseled the field. Probably seed to deep but also lack of post harvest rain and saw no growth.
Edit:this year we spread the headlands and openings on August dug beets on Sept 1. September 4th had .4 of rain and I haven’t seen growth yet. 2 days ago we received an inch so now I’m certain even the headlands we chiseled after spreading should have enough moisture.
Some fields were cultivated and some chiseled depending if the field had been chiseled prior to spreading cover crop.
Tried it multiple times also in our Minn Dak region never worked very good, not much heat in mid October and later. |
