Rye will germinate in mid air if you let it. Lol

Your idea should work. I’ve seen guys spread annual ryegrass and cereal rye (not together,different fields) on a peanut field right before digging them and it was a beautiful stand. The seed and soil get mixed really well.

The advantage we have in my area is lots of rain and almost no snow/frozen ground so we can plant well into December. When you try mixes I always recommend strips with and without different seeds, just to see kinda how it turns out. Kinda like your own strip trials.

The only other thing I tell people is don’t let anyone tell how much seed to plant. I say that because your cover crops can be as thick or thin as you want, they don’t have to be some super duper “carpet” of plants.

I don’t sell seed or anything like that, this is just my experience. Been doing it for literally 40 years so I’ve screwed up my fair share of things. Hahahahaha
