Subject: Cover cropping after sugarbeet harvest

I really want to do some this year and im wondering if anyone has had first hand experience doing this.

Question 1: I was thinking about broadcasting it before harvest and hoping the wet leaves and dirt will sort of get it started when i dig the beets. Another option is to wait til after and just broadcast and drag it in?

Question 2: what mix has people done. I was thinking about doing 25 lbs of winter barley, im only wanting to hold the dirt in place nothing more. I also dont want so much vegetation that i cant field cultivate in the spring.

Thanks!
