Thanks for the forewarning - Is this common amongst all the fields you saw down there or was it an outlier which did not receive fungicide? Went to CR last wknd and crossing hwy 20 there was a noticeable difference
Its pretty widespread. Like you mentioned, when you cross 20 southbound it changes pretty quickly and it gets worse as you go south. Two weeks ago you could identify which fields were most likely to have fungicide. Now it's more difficult but the non treated fields look like they have been froze- complete lack of any sign of green. Westbound once west of Cedar falls things go downhill quickly too and it was literally shocking what central Iowa looked like having been through there just two weeks previous. NW iowa has pockets of greener corn. Less pressure in general or more fungicide sprayed, but they would be the closest to the NE Corner and be in better shape IMHO.
I guess what got my attention the most was the complete lack of any stalk integrity from the ground all the way. There was no problem crushing the stalk with two finger between any node. It's a real bad experience just waiting for a wind over 20 mph.
