n. Illinois | Set Asides did not work in the past when tried so what makes you think it would work this time?
Everyone just sets aside the 10% 20% etc of their acres that are the lowest producing acres.
Maybe its time to think outside of the normal corn/soybean rotation box.
I would want the government to do something about the concentration on both the sale side and input side of the ledgers you can not have 4 players control 85% of the cattle packing industry and have a free market. Same thing goes on the input side as well. Just imagine if there were 10 farm equipment manufactures instead of just 3. The government just needed to enforce some of the rules that were already put into place years ago.
The reality though is the Government isn't going to do anything to break up those large entities and the control they have over Ag inputs and sales. So its going to fall back to the individual to either figure out a new way of making money vs just raising commodity corn and commodity soybeans etc.
Maybe all of this has something to do with massive increase in the capital costs in both real estate and farm equipment thanks to the Fed printing trillions of dollars since 2020 and the politicians on both sides doing nothing about the debt bomb that is being built everyday by their reckless spending. When it does explode everyone is going to suffer.
