| The only thing that can happen to drive our cost down is for the cost of land to go down.
We have near monopolies in the seed, chemical and fertilizer business. They also have pull in the government. I don't for see we can change that.
40 years ago, I remember one of the larger farmers talking about the cost of land. He thought that eventually the cost of land and machinery would get to the point that we would not grow a crop every year on every acre.
Commodities' would be so cheap and machinery so high that the normal would be for every on to still be harvesting all winter to maximize the machine use. The loss of crop would be less than the gain from more utilization of the machinery.
We are getting closer as many operations have enough operators that each man does one field operation per season. | |
