Subject: scanning credit card receipts

UP / Thumb of Michigan
Heres the situation:

We live 7 hrs from the farm office now. Daughter in Law is doing the books and filing. I've never came up with a way to organize credit card receipts well, and the move hasn't made it any better. I'm generating maybe 20 to 40 receipts per month.

I know this has been covered in the past, but a search doesn't get me the info I'm looking for.

I would like to quickly and easily scan the receipts and just email a report to the DIL. I also thought it would really be helpful if the scanner automatically did some sorting and had the ability to keep at least a few things filed separately within a report. Last time I looked, which was a few years back, the scanners didn't really do any of that stuff. At least it didn't look like it was quick and easy.

I thought I'd just use my current printer/scanner at one time, but its at best pretty cumbersome and time consuming to do that. My general experience with most printers and scanners has been more of a like/hate relationship anyway, I'm convinced my lack of patience is part of that problem though.

Got bored the other night and did some searching on Amazon. It appears that maybe there are some scanners that actually have some intelligence within the software now that might pick out a few things on the receipt and sort them into a searchable file? Some suggest they'll interface with Quickbooks, but I can't seem to find out whether that only means QB online or not? We use desktop and plan on doing so as long as we can.

Anyway, what I'd like to do is scan receipts easily, have them sorted by card number, vendor, date, and for what items were purchased. If the items are listed obviously- some are, some not. I'd like a report to be generated that I can send to my office and then I can destroy the receipt's. Is there anything like that on the market? Some claim to do so, but I'm a little skeptical.
