S Illinois
SA beans all go east around Africa. Shortest/cheapest route to China for SA beans. The most recent data I have seen is ocean freight runs about $1.05 from Brazilian ports to China and $0.80 from the PNW to China. The PNW also has the advantage of quicker turn around times. The problem for the PNW is getting beans to the port. It's a long way to get beans to the PNW. PNW beans work good in the fall with relatively weak basis in the Western Corn Belt. But once harvest hits in Brazil, that advantage goes away. The US really doesn't have any freight advantage into China. Edit: From the major growing regions in the US. From the US gulf, ocean freight is running about $1.50/bu of soybeans.

Edit 2: Sort of an interesting site to look at ship traffic globally. https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/centerx:22.6/centery:-14.3...
