It sounds like having the ventilation coming up from the eves is important. This house had insulation and was removed to do electrical work. The only ventilation for the attic is the two gable end vents and two of the roof vents that rotate. There is no vents in the eve soffit area. Between the rafters and there is a vertical board that blocks off the attic from the outside. You can see that in the picture. On the outside the underside of the eves are covered with plywood without any type of vents. That was covered with the siding soffit material. I know any kind of venting needs to be screened to keep stuff out. The venting in the soffit material is like every three panels. So if I use a hole saw to cut holes in the blocker board. I think a two inch would probably be the size used. Do I need vents between each pair of rafters. Will one two inch hole between each pair be enough? Then one through the plywood outside. Would like a simple way to screen the holes in the blocker boards but is a tight area working from inside. Will be difficult even drilling the holes.
