Leesburg, Ohio | We spent way too much money in the beginning on "cheap"/"entry-level" gps equipment.
We would have been way ahead to start with a basic Deere system that has the capability of growing into whatever we ultimately needed.
Instead, we had to junk our cheap systems, and then pay all over again to get started on the expandable, highly capable system we needed.
My advice to you:
Since you apparently have green iron, I would recommend buying a used 4640 screen, and a 6000 receiver, and a 300 ATU.
From there, you can eventually add and expand to any gps function you want, WITHOUT having to go backwards and waste your original investment.
GPS steering is a great thing. But it does not pay any bills.
The big actual hard $ return to using gps, is in the cost savings you gain from section control on the planter and sprayer, so don't cheap out on your initial gps setup to save a few $, and then have to pay all over again for a more capable system to add section control, row sense, etc. Make sure your initial system can be expanded later to do all the available functions you will need in the future. | |
