Subject: RE: Any dog whispers here

Chaffee, Western New York
There's a book "Gun Dog" on training a puppy. First thing she ate. Luckily I'd read enough to learn about a halt command. I use "AaaTtt" whatever she's doing she knows it's gotta stop right NOW. When used with a first encounter with something she knows you don't mess with it. Purebred yellow Lab female from an AGCO dealers dog with a lot of customer, and employee exposure. Genetics are a "Welcoming" and very much a pleased to please you dog. Not fond of baths but will walk right in the tub and stay still until told to "shake" or "ok" (get out).

Shock collar is effective for training commands, aggression I don't know. My dog's aggression was with jumping, rubbing on people. Perfect aim for testicles, and she was crazy lovey pushing with her shoulder, side, and tail beating into older women, getting them muddy or knocking them down. Yelling and a few slaps were enough that she only does it to the one woman who encourages her, but it took almost two years to calm/overcome that excited state. It was a bit of work getting her to be polite that way. She's learning not everyone is a dog lover, or good person and has developed a sense; jump right into the delivery truck and rub all over a new driver who likes dogs and others she keeps an laser focus stinkeye on and has even given a "woof" if they turn around after completing their delivery or put a package in the wrong spot. She did go after the neighbor's chickens twice and got hit and scolded, hasn't messed with them since. She will kill pigeons, woodchucks, squirrels, chipmunk, mice and rats so she isn't completely harmless. Skunks took two encounters and while walking in the dark checking pivot a skunk came out right in front of her (and me) and she froze, pointed for a second and then retreated on my command, which is a level a lot of dogs can't learn.
